Japan Series No. 6 - Mitutoyo's Headquarters: At the Heart of Mitutoyo

As part of our visit to Japan, H Roberts & Sons also had the privilege of visiting Mitutoyo’s headquarters, an experience that brought together the company’s past, present, and future in one place.

This visit was not only about technology and manufacturing, but also about the people and philosophy behind one of the most respected names in metrology.

Meeting at Headquarters

During our time at headquarters, we attended a meeting and had lunch with Numata-san, providing an opportunity to discuss Mitutoyo’s direction, values, and ongoing commitment to precision engineering.

It was a valuable moment to step back from the factory environment and gain insight into the wider vision of the company. The emphasis on quality, long-term thinking, and continuous improvement was clear throughout.

The M3 Showroom

Following the meeting, we visited the M3 showroom, where Mitutoyo’s latest technologies and solutions are on display.

The showroom brings together a wide range of equipment, from traditional hand tools to advanced automated measurement systems. It highlights how Mitutoyo continues to evolve, integrating digital technologies, automation, and data-driven solutions into modern inspection processes.

Seeing the full product range in one place provided a clear picture of how different measurement solutions can work together within a complete system.

Exploring the Mitutoyo Museum

The visit also included time at the Mitutoyo museum, which offers a fascinating look into the company’s history and development.

From early instruments to modern innovations, the museum shows how Mitutoyo has grown while maintaining its core focus on precision and reliability.

It also provides insight into the challenges and milestones that have shaped the company over the years, reinforcing the depth of experience behind the brand.

Bringing It All Together

What makes the headquarters visit particularly meaningful is how it connects every aspect of Mitutoyo’s operations.

From the history shown in the museum, to the innovation displayed in the showroom, and the discussions at headquarters, everything reflects a consistent approach to quality and precision.

Final Thoughts

For H Roberts & Sons, visiting Mitutoyo’s headquarters provided a fitting conclusion to our factory tour across Japan.

It brought together everything we had seen, from casting and manufacturing through to advanced measurement systems and future developments.

More importantly, it reinforced the values behind the products we supply. Precision, consistency, and a commitment to improvement are not just part of the process, they are part of the culture.

This visit gave us a deeper understanding of the company behind the instruments, and why Mitutoyo continues to set the standard in metrology.
