A 3-point bore gauge, also known as a Bowers bore gauge, is a precision measuring instrument used to measure the inside diameter of a hole or bore. A 3-point bore gauge has three contact points. This design ensures more accurate measurements, especially in situations where the bore may be slightly out of round or irregular. A 2-point bore gauge is similar to the 3-point but typically used in smaller ranges. 

The three contact points of the gauge are typically spring-loaded and positioned equidistant from each other around the circumference of the gauge head. When inserted into a bore, these points make contact with the inner surface, and the distance between them is measured to determine the bore diameter.

3-point bore gauges are commonly used in industries such as machining, automotive, aerospace, and engineering where precise measurements of bores are critical for quality control and manufacturing processes. They come in various sizes and designs to accommodate different bore diameters and applications.
